Saturday, May 26thmarked the closing of the NSA spring jump racing circuit with the Fair Hill Races in Elkton, Maryland.  It was a big day for owner Gill Johnston, whose entry Mutasaawy won the $40,000 Miles Valentine Memorial and Set to Music won the first division of the $30,000 Sport of Kings Maiden Hurdle.  Trainer Kathy Neilson trained Johnston’s maiden entry and also had a win for Move Up Stable’s It’s Nothing in the $25,000 Novice Timber Race.  Taking the feature, the $50,000 Iris Coggins Memorial Filly and Mare Hurdle Stakes, was the Fields Stable’s Dawn Wall trained by Elizabeth Voss and ridden to victory by Jack Doyle.  The winning mare, who is also the daughter of former steeplechase champion Guelph, edged out Willow U by ½ a length in the field of 11 starters. Don Clippinger sums up the day in Dawn Wall surges to Coggins Memorial upset.  The Cecil County Whig noted what a successful event the Fair Hill Races are for Cecil County and even the Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, was in attendance and spoke about how important the horse industry is to Maryland.  You can read the Governor’s comments in Thousands attend annual Fair Hill Races.  Full results from the jumping races at Fair Hill can be found on Equibase, results for flat races can be found on the NSA website.   Replays can be found on the HCP Sports site.
