It’s a wrap!  Sunday was the last race meet in the Maryland Governor’s Cup Series.  The big story of the day was that jockey Jack Doyle won the $200,000 Iroquois Steeplechase on Saturday aboard Maryland owner Irv Naylor’s Ranwaq and jumped on a plane to be at the Potomac Hunt Races on Sunday to win the maiden hurdle race at Potomac on Manturian High for owner/trainer Lilli Kurtinecz. This was “Manny’s” first time over hurdles, but he is no stranger to the race course as he has won multiple graded stakes on the flat, including the Sunshine Millions Turf Stakes Race.  The winning team members are certainly no stranger to winners circles!

In other races… the Preakness Open Timber attracted a field of three, but all three horses went off course jumping an extra fence before the finish. The stewards permitted the race to stand as it was because all runners in the race made the same misjudgment.  Touchdowntown was crowned the victor.  Randy Rouse and Barry Foley teamed to win the $7,000 Preakness Open Hurdle with Hishi Soar.  In Todd We Trust took home first place honors in the Novice Timber, being only one of two finishers out of five starters.  The Bruce Smart owned entry was ridden to victory by Kieran Norris and trained by Jimmy Day.
