Although the season does not technically start for a few more weeks, race meet organizers in Maryland are evaluating risk levels and the impact of Governor Hogan’s State of Emergency due to the Coronavirus.

The Green Spring Valley Hounds, Inc. has made the difficult decision to cancel its Point to Point scheduled for March 29 at Shawan Downs. According a statement put out by the race meet organizers:

In making this decision , we relied heavily upon our medical providers and their expert medical opinions on the subject of the COVID 19 and the relative ease of person to person transmission, even outside.  We weighed and discussed the risks and benefits, and made this decision based on public health and safety concerns for the invited public, health care providers, owners, trainers , and riders.  Additionally, the need for medical providers—doctors, EMTs and ambulance personnel—to be available on short notice to address this pandemic prevented the Committee from providing the high level of medical coverage we have always prided ourselves on providing for this event.

We thank all of those who supported us in our preparations for the race meets. The intent of the Committee is to refund all sponsorship and Program Ad dollars in the next couple of weeks.  Should any of those supporters wish to convert those dollars into a donation to GSVH, please advise.
