Foxhall kicks off 2016 Maryland Spring Steeplechase!
Maryland’s spring season kicks off with the Foxhall Farm Trophy Team Chase this Saturday, March 20, and follows with a different meet each weekend. 108 horses are signed up to run as teams of three, with a 1 p.m. post time.
With sunny skies and balmy spring weather predicted, what could be better than packing a tailgate and heading up to the bucolic countryside of Baltimore County – particularly when tailgating is FREE at Foxhall!
One of the oldest horse sports in Maryland, steeplechasing today draws more spectators than any other equestrian sport in Maryland (except for the flat and harness tracks), regularly drawing thousands of horse people and non-horse people to picnic on hillsides and tailgates while watching Thoroughbreds fly fences (or ponies introducing young riders to the “need for speed”).
