Today, the Grand National and the Hunt Cup join the increasing list of 2020 Maryland race meet cancellations, which to date include the Foxhall Farm Team Chase, the Green Spring Valley Point-to-Point, the Elkridge Harford Point-to-Point and the Howard County Cup.
From The Grand National
The Grand National Steeplechase Association regrets to announce the cancellation of the April 18, 2020 Grand National Steeplechase day of racing and related events. Begun in 1898 and run uninterrupted for the last seventy-five years, the decision was not made lightly but was in accord with directives of State and Federal Government and information from the Center for Disease Control.
Our interest and energy will be on the health and well-being priorities of our public services, medical professionals, volunteers, loyal supporters and participants until this moment has passed. We will then plan to resume the great and historic tradition of the Grand National Steeplechase in 2021. A mailing will be sent to our supporters to address refunds and credits. Thank you for your support and understanding.
From The Maryland Hunt Cup
In these unprecedented times, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the health of our greater community, volunteers, supporters and
participants is of paramount concern. Following Governor Hogan’s executive order, banning gatherings of 50 people* or more, the CDC & WHO’s recommendations, and the advice of our professional medical support team, the Maryland Hunt Cup Committee has
decided not to run our race in 2020. We wholeheartedly thank our volunteers and supporters and look forward to returning in April 2021.
*Since MHC issued this notice, Governor Hogan’s State of Emergency was amended to ban gatherings of 10 people or more, with willful violators incurring fines of up to $5,000 plus potential jail time.
