The Maryland Steeplechase Association 2019 Governor’s Cup Series, presented by Farm Credit, has concluded with the Fair Hill Races.

No surprise, it’s Senior Senator, owned by Skip & Vicki Crawford, as the 2019 Maryland Governor’s Cup Horse of the Year! This will be the third year in a row that the Crawfords take home the fabulous bronze by Jean Clagett – but this trophy does not get retired. Which doesn’t really matter, as the Crawfords already own the same bronze, which they graciously purchased at the same time MSA purchased the bronze for the trophy, in order to help make the cost more affordable for MSA. The mold was destroyed after the two casts, making these bronzes truly limited! But with two in their possession, it was easy to let the trophy circulate amongst the homes of the various Senior Senator connections.

Always of interest is the Novice Timber Horse of the Year.  Mrs. John Fisher’s Schoodic will join this promising club of up-and-comers; click here to see who has won Novice Timber Horse in prior years.

Of Note

In the 3-way tie for the Heavyweight Timber and the Voss Amateur Flat, none of the finalist qualify, based on the Maryland Governor’s Cup Series 2019 General Conditions #18: “Riders and horses must race at least twice (in division qualifying races), and win at least once, in order to be eligible for year-end awards.”

However, in the 3-way for the Amateur-Apprentice Timber Horse & Rider, only Flaming Sword and Aaron Sinnott are the only pair that meet Condition 18 of the MSA General Conditions.

Results are not final until after the protest period.
