The Green Spring Valley Pt to Pt kicked off the 2017 Maryland Governor’s Cup Series this past Saturday in Hunt Valley, MD.  Making the headline on the day was Church Music piloted by Brett Owings.  Winning the Open Timber on soft going in 8:26 4/5 by 2 1/2 lengths.  Trained by Susie Owings and owned by JWY Martin, Jr, the duo bested a field of four including Super Saturday, Durer, and On the Corner, finishing in that order.

Thistledown Farm’s Spirit of Shankley make his conversion debut from hurdles to timber in the Novice Timber taking the win for trainer/rider Mark Beecher.  Aquies and Whatdidyousee rounded out the three horse field in that order.

Two training flat races rounded out the day with victories were claimed by Lawn Ranger and Jarir for trainers Jonathan Shepard and Cyril Murphy.

Parker Hendriks breaks his maiden on Mookie Monster in the Large Pony Flat, cousin Sklyar McKenna leads the victor.

And not to be dismissed, the pony and junior race entries were overwhelming with 36 starters compared to 35 timber and flat horse starters!  Check out MSA photographer Bob. Keller’s gallery here for some great images of the weekend.  For full results visit Central Entry Office website.
