This year, in lieu of the Maryland Junior Hunt Cup, Shawan Downs will host the inaugural LPT Junior Champions’ Day on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Post time is set for 11:00 am and the day will include the traditional Lead Line Trot, Junior Pony Flat Races, and Junior Field Master’s Chases.

Unique to the LPT Junior Champions’ Day is the shetland pony division in both the flat races and field master’s chases. The third race of the day will be the Polo Pony Flat, restricted to actively playing polo ponies, which will be run at half a mile with polo tack required. There will also be a one mile Restricted Amateur Flat for horses in work with a licensed NSA trainer, open to riders 14-18 years old who currently work for the NSA trainer.

The LPT Junior Champions’ Day races will be included as part of the Governor’s Cup Series, so points will be earned towards year-end awards.
